Building a MagicMirror
September 27th, 2019
The build

The mirror has been running for quite some time now to big satisfaction for both my girlfiend and me. Even though my girlfriend thought it was a crazy project while it was going on, it has shown to become a solid part of her morning rutine to check up on both the calendar and the news.

The build is relatively cheap. I used foil and normal glass to make the two way mirror effect instead of a proper two way mirror. It is the first time I have ever tried to attach foil and it shows. I will give it another try during the winter and update the post with pictures of how it goes.

I have used the following materials for building my magicmirror:

  • Used 27" Acer laptop screen

  • Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+

  • Mirror from Ikea - Link

  • Couple of battens 50x25mm

  • Glass to replace the existent mirror in the Ikea frame

  • One way mirror foil from foliekniven.dk - Link

Modules:

  • MMM-Rejseplanen (changed it a little from showing departures from single trainstations to show departures from multiple different busstops)

  • MMM-NOAA3 (Changed some styling and added some other weather pictures)

  • MMM-Hue-Lights

  • MMM-Sonos

  • MMM-Remote-Control

  • MMM-SystemStats

  • MMM-Cursor
